The Healthy Prune and its Multiferious Health Benefits

natural detox supplements

Lots of people wonder how we decided which herbs, berries, and natural products to include in our healthy herbal supplements. Our BioRestore natural detox formula, for example, has 11 different natural products. How did we choose them? Well, here's the story of one of these ingredients. When you're done reading it, you'll have a better appreciation for the care we took in selecting the natural constituents of our herbal formulas.

The humble prune, actually a dried plumb, is one of the healthier foods known to man. Everyone realizes that prunes are good for relieving constipation. Did you also know that prunes are one of the most powerful antioxidant fruits around? Tufts University ranks prunes as the number one antioxidant capacity fruit. The natural plant chemicals found in this fruit, play a special role in neutralizing dangerous superoxide anion radicals in the body. This action protects the safety of fats that make up the cell membranes in the brain and other organ systems.

Prunes contain high amounts of potassium. The potassium ingested in prunes helps protect the body against hypertension. In one study, subjects who ate a diet rich in potassium were found to have lower blood pressure and a lower incidence of stroke. The potassium in prunes helps strengthen the bones by blocking the excretion of calcium by the kidneys.

Prunes are an important source of dietary fiber. Just 1/4 cup of prunes provides 12% of the daily recommended amounts of fiber in our diet. Prune fiber delays the passage of food from the stomach, which delays the absorption of glucose. Prune fiber stimulates insulin production, which further reduces glucose levels in the blood. The fruit gives a sense of satiety when eaten, and this helps prevent overeating and weight gain.

Prunes control constipation by drawing water into the large intestine. The extra water makes the stool soft and easy to expel. Prune fiber adds bulk to the stool, which makes it stimulate bowel motility. The decrease in colon transit time reduces stress on the bowel wall, which in turn leads to decreased incidence of cancer and hemorrhoids.

Prune fiber stimulates the growth of health promoting bacteria in the large bowel. These large healthy bacterial colonies drive out poisonous species of bacteria. At the same time, they break down prune fiber into butyric and proprionic acid, Butyric acid is a healthy food for colon mucosa cells, and proprionic acid is reabsorbed into the blood stream where it helps lower production of cholesterol throughout the body. Prune fibers that are not broken down by bacteria bind to bile acids and help eliminate them. This, in turn, forces the liver to burn up excess cholesterol in the process of creating new bile acids.

After reading this article, you can appreciate why prune extract is included in our natural detox supplement. By stimulating regularity, it allows the body to rid itself of ingested toxins in a timely fashion. It promotes bowel health by nurturing colon membrane cells, and promoting a culture of healthy bacteria. It provides powerful antioxidants, which help the body neutralize toxic reactions, and it reduces the formation and causes the breakdown of excess cholesterol. Prune extract is one of the ingredients that makes our BioRestore a superior detox formula.

BioOPC+ Contains Four Natural Extracts High in Resveratrol

For years, scientists pondered over the "French Paradox." Why is it that men in France eat more saturated fats, and smoke more cigarettes, and yet have a significantly lower incidence of heart attacks? The researchers concluded their longevity might be related to the greater red wine consumption in France.. Further investigation revealed the possibility that a polyphenol in red wine called resveratrol might be responsible for the effect.

Resveratrol is an antioxidant found in the skin of red grapes and many other fruits, vegetables, and berries including blueberries, bilberries, cranberries, mulberries, and peanuts. As an antioxidant, experts believe it may be responsible for reducing the formation of "bad" cholesterol, the formation of atherosclerosis, as well as the inflammation in the walls of blood vessels that is found in atherosclerotic conditions. It has been found to have protective effects against obesity and diabetes in animal. It has some anti-cancer effects.

Recently reachers discovered the first scientific evidence suggesting that resveratrol is responsible for the extraordinary cardiac health found in France. These findings came out of a study of mice, in which it was seen that reservatrol creates an alteration in gene expression similar to that found in people who eat a calorie restricted diets. It has been known for some time that calorie restricted diets extend lifespan, and now scientists believe that this amazing natural compound can bequeath the same benefits of a low calorie diet to people who have normal calorie intake.

People who can't or don't drink wine can get their resveratrol from other sources. Red wine extract, for example, provides the healthy benefits of red wine without the accompanying alcohol intake. We at eHelps, a manufacturer of natural health products, are proud as can be of our BioOPC+ supplement, which has four natural extracts that are high in resveratrol. These four are red wine extract, cranberries, mulberries, and blueberries. We combine these four health bequeathing ingredients with 10 other natural antioxidant rich berries and vegetables to give users a wide cross-section of natural antioxidants. This is so important because each antioxidant plays a different role in neutralizing harmful free radicals in the body, and a broad selection of antioxidants is most likely to include the compounds that can counter the oxidant build-up found at any particular time.

While the resveratrol found in various natural sources is the same, nature provides many different types of antioxidants, each of which plays a different role in fighting excess oxidation. A balanced mixed of natural antioxidants, therefore, provides the body with a solid defense against oxidant buildup in the body.

Benefits of Herbal Sleep Supplements vs Chemical OTCs -Sleeping Pills

For some it may seem difficult to see the differences between using herbal sleep supplements versus chemically refined over the counter/prescription sleeping pills.  Sleeping pills seem to be most effective when used for a short period of time, such as recovering from a medical procedure.  People who suffer from insomnia also use various sleep aids. These should also be used briefly to start off with for treatment of insomnia, especially if sleep deprivation is severe.  This option is a very short term one and never solves the problem.  In many cases it can add to.  It’s of significance to note that sleeping pills may have irreversible side effects after prolonged use.

Sleeping pills used over a long period of time should only be used on an "as needed" basis.  Many people will lean toward over-the-counter sleep aids vs prescriptions believing over-the-counter aids are less harmful with a lower risk of addiction.

This is not necessarily true, there are concerns that must be considered with both over-the-counter and prescription sleep aids:

Some of the side effects range from prolonged drowsiness, dry mouth, forgetfulness and confusion.  The tolerance to these drugs can increase over a period of time, leading to taking higher dosages leading to more side effects.

These drug, both over-the-counter and prescription can lead to drug dependence/addiction when used for a prolonged period of time.  You can become so dependent on these drugs that you cannot sleep without them.

Interaction with other medications could lead to a very dangerous situation when combining them with sleep aids.

All sleeping aids have side effects that vary, depending on the specific drug and dosage as well as how long these drugs remain in your system.  You can suffer from severe headaches, muscle pain, dizziness, rebound insomnia and daytime sleepiness to name a few. Reports are now realizing that sleeping pills alter brain function and impairs memory after long term use.

The Advantages of Herbal Sleeping Aids:

Many people have chosen to stay away from chemical aids due to the side effects and risk factors and therefore are leaning toward Natural Herbal Sleep Aids with good reason.  It’s important to understand that while the actual task of effectively getting you to sleep may be just as strong on both sides, they can not be more different in how make this function happen. This is why herbal sleep aids are the way to go.  Formulaic herbal blends are often used to release the blockages which cause the insomnia. Unlike with chemical sleep aids, there is no addiction and used over time, you will may no longer need to use herbal sleeping aids once the root problem is addressed and corrected. Whereas conventional sleep aids force your system to shut down causing damage to the body when used long term. Herbal sleep aids allow your body to go to sleep naturally and normally.  Herbal sleeping aids can give you the same results as prescriptions or OTCs without the harmful side effects while improving how bodily function so that it can get to rest soundly.  And in the end you may find that a permanent fix as opposed to a short quick fix may be a better choice for you and lead to better health when deciding of which to use.

As with any alternative medication, always check with your doctor before proceeding with their use.
