Antioxidants: The Heroes Within

The battle is raging at its peak. Our heroes’ triumphant cry can be heard from afar but the nemesis kept pounding on the walls, relentlessly aiming to cause destruction. At the end of the day, our heroes lay down tired; their numbers dwindling fast; outside the walls the invaders kept pouring in and numbers are amassing. What chance do our heroes have?

If you can just imagine, this is what is going on inside your body. Within there is an endless war between your heroes, the Antioxidants, and the nemesis, the free radicals. Your defensive walls, the immune system, are working overtime and now that the cold season is setting in, you need to defend yourself more from colds and flu.

Free radicals were formed when the oxygen with your body interact with some molecules causing a chain of reaction. This chain of reaction can cause great damage to your cells. And though your immune system has enzymes that guards your body from these radicals, the main antioxidants needed to improve immune system to neutralize free radicals are found in nutritious fruits and vegetables.

These free radicals relentlessly attack your body, non-stop. Your immune system cannot fend for you alone; you need to have reinforcements to fight off these free radicals. The only way to do this is to have lots of supply of Antioxidants as it can stop free radicals from causing some damage within your body and improve immune system.

Antioxidants can help improve health and a healthy body is a warm body in a cold season. The best flu and cold antioxidants are vitamins like vitamin C and E as well as beta-carotene. Beta-carotene can be found in asparagus, beets, carrots, corn, mangoes, squash (perfect during fall), tomatoes, broccoli, kale and watermelon. Vitamin C rich vegetables and fruits are kiwi, papaya, sweet potato, tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower and tomatoes. Vitamin E can be found in corn oil, hazelnuts, lobster, salmon steak, almonds, peanut butter, sunflower seeds and safflower oil. These foods can help improve health tremendously.

Antioxidants help improve immune system. An overworked immune system will do no good for your body. With the antioxidants helping your immune system fight of colds and flu, your immune system can work well. It is easier to neutralize free radicals this way.

And with this, your heroes will face another day, invigorated.
